Topic:
Timber Thinning Techniques
There are no
second chances with thinnings, making it
imperative to do right the first time. Thinning
options change with management methods, ecological
objectives, target products, topography, vicinity,
species, stocking and age.
The
goal of thinning is to control the amount and
distribution of available growing space to direct sunlight, nutrients and moisture to
influence the root, crown and diameter growth which
determines the ecology, aesthetics, health, quality,
products and yield of every forest.
This
presentation will overview pre-commercial thinning,
commercial thinning , preparing thinning, thinning contracts
and deeds, thinning accountability and inspections
Topic:
Advertising Timber & Land Sales
When it comes to
commercial property, it is all about “location,
location, location”; when it
comes to marketing timber and land it is all about,
“exposure, exposure, exposure”. The greater number of
“qualified” prospects that hear about and easily view
your timber or timberland sale; the “consistently”
higher price you will experience.
To maximize
exposure, one must use all old and new resources
available. This is a five point summary on how to
maximize your timber and land sales: essentials, preparing a
sale prospectus, distributing a sale prospectus, time frame
and bid ethics. |

Jody Pagan - Five Oaks Duck Lodge
Jody worked as a biologist for USDA Natural
Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for twelve years and
worked with state, federal, and non-profit agency employees to
restore thousands of acres of wetland in Arkansas. During the
latter part of Jody’s career with NRCS he traveled the country
working with the greatest minds in wetland restoration and
management. Jody was able to play a major role in restoring
hundreds of thousands acres of wetland through the Wetlands
Reserve Program (WRP) across the country. In October of 2005,
George Dunklin, Jr. and Jody had a vision to start a company
that would provide the most advanced science based technical
assistance in waterfowl and wetland management to private
landowners. Their goal was to educate landowners and disprove
management myths like, “flooding green tree reservoirs in
October is not detrimental to red oak trees”. They also
developed several products to improve management on their
property, such as Golden Grass waterfowl forage, a tree nursery
where they grow containerized bottomland hardwood species for
restoration and green tree reservoir renovation; and a full line
of water control structures to regulate water levels in
waterfowl impoundments. |
